The Morrison Government has now delivered emergency cash payments and income support to more than one million Australians who have been impacted by the devastating Queensland and New South Wales floods.
Minister for Government Services, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the Morrison Government has acted swiftly to deliver more than $862 million in Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) for 755,000 claims to over one million flood affected people.
“Australians in their time of need are being supported by the Morrison Government, with Services Australia processing and paying a record number of AGDRP and DRA claims for a single natural disaster event."
“Since this flood emergency started, we’ve delivered urgent financial assistance to communities in 67 local government areas from Gladstone down to Eurobodalla and we are committed to supporting these communities through their recovery,” Minister Reynolds said.
Along with financial support, Minister Reynolds said Services Australia staff have also been mobilised and deployed to 84 locations across New South Wales and Queensland.
‘Staff have already helped more than 12,000 people in evacuation and recovery centres, Mobile Service Centres and other community servicing in some of the worst flood-affected communities. They are continuing to assist throughout all of the impacted LGAs at our service centres, all of which are open,’ Minister Reynolds said.
"As the one of the largest employers of social workers nationally, many of the agency’s social workers are also working to connect impacted residents to counselling and mental health support services."
